The "flower battles" on the Promenade des Anglais

The Nice Carnival is one of the world's major carnival events, alongside the Brazilian Carnival and Venetian Carnival.

The origins of this event go back to 1876 when the first flower parade took place along the Promenade des Anglais. At the beginning, it was a simple exchange of flowers to entertain tourists, but the idea quickly took on and was developed to pay tribute to the local flower producers. Today, this event highlights the wide diversity of flowers in this region as 80% of flowers used are produced locally.

The traditional Flower Parades take place on the Promenade des Anglais. It is also called "flower battles" and it is one of its kind in the world and features among the most famous of the French Riviera. On each float, costumed models throw up to 100.000 flowers to an enthusiastic crowd. The Carnival Parade of lights, on the Place Masséna, light up the heart of Nice with the visual animations diffused on big screens and illuminated floats.

The Carnival Parade "Parada Nissarda" is made up of 18 floats, designed on the year's special theme, and other figurines in a colorful parade with dazzling colors. More than 1000 dancers and musicians from all over the world make live this authentic and magical event.
